MotoGP: Stoner loses advantage at Sachsenring

Rossi out but Stoner has his worst race this season

CASEY Stoner failed to make the most of Rossi's crash during today's MotoGP. The championship leader was up the front, hassling eventual race winner Pedrosa, but he pace dropped off later in the race. Stoner was passed by Melandri and then by Hayden and Edwards. Melandri's pace dropped off and Stoner once again reeled him in. Hopkins - Kawasaki's new signing for 2008 -looked like he was also going to pass Stoner, but his pace tailed off with under 10 laps to go. Stoner took fifth place, one behind a hard-charging Edwards.

Nicky Hayden came from 14th on the grid to take third place. "The tyres are what got me through today, Michelin got it done" said last year's MotoGP champ.

Dani Pedrosa was almost in tears talking to journalists after the race: "I feel great" he said.

Loris Capiroissi took second place and said: "Not really a fine race but I make completely different choise to everybody and for sure, my choice was the best."

When Capirossi was asked if he wanted to stay with Ducati, he said: "I don't know" - a clear indication that changes are coming at Ducati.
