Lorenzo competes in Race of Champions

MotoGP champion makes a good fist of it on four wheels against some stiff competition

MOTOGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo took part in his first Race of Champions over the weekend, testing his skills against Formula 1 royalty.

Among the competitors were current F1 champion Sebastian Vettel and all time great, Michael Schumacher.

Race of Champions runs over two days. Lorenzo, one of only two competitors from the motorcycle world, made it to the semi-finals with Team All Stars teammate Tom Kristensen (a Danish Le Mans 24HR driver of some repute.) The individual races of day two saw Lorenzo eventually bettered by Vettel after a fierce duel.

The overall competition was won by French F1 driver Romain Grosjean, who is still awaiting confirmation of his seat at Lotus next year. He has been dubbed 'a first lap nutcase' by rival Mark Weber, as a result of the high number of accidents he caused throughout the year.

Lorenzo said: 'It’s been a fantastic experience to be here in Thailand again. The people are so friendly and warm; it is always a pleasure to be here. I have really enjoyed the Race of Champions; the drivers are so talented and it’s a real challenge to try to keep up with them. I would like to come back next time and maybe bring some motorbikes for them to try!'
