STAGE eight of the 2017 Dakar rally was a monster - 822km from Uyuni to Salta. Sam Sunderland put in another strong performance as he increased his overall lead with a third place behind Red Bull KTM Factory teammate Matthias Walkner amid tough conditions caused by the previous days’ rain.
Monster Energy Honda rider Joan Barreda took the spoils with his second victory of this year’s race. However, even though he’s found some speed, it looks like Sam Sunderland’s lead of over an hour is unassailable.
