BSB: 1200cc twins for British Superbike in 2008

MCRCB rules announce big twins for domestic series

BRITISH Superbike rules will allow 1200cc twin-cylinder bikes in the 2008 season.

The new rules, published by the MCRCB states that the displacement capacities

must be: 4 cylinder over 750cc up to 1000cc 4 stroke or 2 cylinder over 750cc up to 1200cc 4 stroke. The rules also state that the displacement capacity must remain at the homologated size. Modifying the bore and stroke to reach class limits is not allowed. The minimum weight remains the same, at 165kg.

The full 2008 regulations can be downloaded, here.

Expect to see Airwaves Ducati ditch their 999 for the new 1098 next season. As yet, no manufacturers have revealed any plans to produce new models to take advantage of the twin-cylinder capacity increase.
