Rutter in for injured Andrews

Michael Rutter's back in the BSB paddock for MSS Colchester Kawasaki

VETERAN BSB MAN Michael Rutter will stand in to replace the injured Simon Andrews at Brands Hatch this weekend, August 7/8/9. Rutter will partner regular MSS Colchester Kawasaki BSB rider, Frenchman Julien da Costa.

Bridgenorth-based Rutter, who rode for the MSS Colchester Kawasaki squad in 2007, is understandably excited about the prospect.

‘I was painting my front door when the team owner rang an hour ago. I thought I had a weekend of DIY ahead of me. I’d just painted it gloss black but I may have to go bright green now’, joked Rutter. ‘In all seriousness though, I’m bang up for this weekend and I’m really looking forward to it. The MSS Colchester team have worked wonders with the ZX-10R Ninja since I rode it in 07 and I can’t wait to make a nuisance of myself at the front of the field.’

For Andrews and his hard-working team, the severity of his injury is a bitter blow. Just three weeks after nearly winning his first BSB race at Mallory Park, it appeared that the young rider was finding race winning form on the ultra-competitive ZX-10R Ninja and Brands Hatch was a chance to right the wrongs of Mallory Park.

‘I had my left scaphoid bone screwed together in Belgium the day after Mallory Park and went back this week for further tests and x-rays,’ said Andrews. ‘It just appears that the bone hasn’t knitted together as expected which leaves me with no option but to sit this event out and give the wound some rest. I’m gutted, really gutted – I was so fired up to get the win we all deserve.’

But the show must go on and team boss, Nick Morgan, had no hesitation in giving the vastly experienced Rutter the call-up.

‘Michael showed some real promise on our bike in 07 but the 09 bike, as our results this season have shown, is an ocean apart from where we were two years ago. While we’re obviously disappointed that Simon can’t ride this weekend, we’re all genuinely excited by Michael's potential this weekend.’

Rutter had a recent stint with Worx Crescent Suzuki, as stand-in rider for injured Frenchie Sylvain Guintoli. Rutter has since been replaced by  former WSB man Tommy Hill.
