Hopkins gets to grips with Brands GP

BSB title contender mixes it up with trackday punters at Club MSV trackday

JOHN Hopkins and team mate Jon Kirkham were testing yesterday with the Samsung Crescent Suzuki team at a Club MSV trackday in preparation for the British Superbike round at Brands hatch on 5th to 7th August.

Hopkins has ridden the GP circuit but only on a few demonstration laps on his GSV-R Suzuki MotoGP bike back in 2006.

Hopkins again got to grips with another new track, having only completed a handful of demonstration laps on the Grand Prix circuit back in 2006 with the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team, and ended the day satisfied with his pace. Kirkham meanwhile continued to build on the team's previous test at Cadwell Park last week as he prepares to close the current 20 point gap in the overall championship standings to Josh Brookes in sixth ahead of the Showdown.

Hopkins said: "It has been a great day on track and in the time we had we were able to put some good lap times down and I love the circuit. I wanted to put in as many laps as possible as Brands Hatch is so important to the championship, with the next round being three races and then the final round also here on the Grand Prix circuit. I am really grateful for the opportunity to have been on track today and I can definitely see myself going quick here when we return for the race. I am really pleased with what we have done and I can't wait for the races now."

Kirkham said: "We have had a good day on track. It took a few laps to get up to speed and then I really got into it and this has to be one of my favourite tracks. I can't wait for the races as we get three chances and it is important to have three strong finishes so we can try and get back in the top six for the Showdown."
