Yamaha pays tribute to original V-Max designer Kenji Ekuan with 30th anniversary special
HERE’S the latest ‘yard built’ special from Yamaha, a VMAX customised by Germany’s JvB-moto and named the Infrared.
Part of Yamaha’s 30th anniversary celebrations of the original V-Max, it’s a ‘dragster meets café racer concept’ according to Yamaha.
It’s got a custom-made aluminium mudguard, a carbon-fibre headlight unit integrated into the forks and carbon wheel covers.
It’s also been given clip-on bars, a carbon tank cover, and aluminium air intake scoops ‘crafted’ from those of a 1985 V-Max.
A release from Yamaha said: ‘The stunning craftsmanship continues with a handmade aluminium subframe crafted from bits of the stock unit and a custom fuel tank placed under the seat, also made from aluminium and holding the same fuel as the standard tank for an unspoiled riding experience.’
Unveiling the model, a Yamaha spokesman paid tribute to Kenji Ekuan, legendary designer of the original V-Max, who died on Saturday.
The spokesman said: ‘With the 30th Anniversary of the VMAX and the launch of the Infrared we would like to pay tribute to Kenji Ekuan for his contribution to the VMAX legend.’
