New Bikes

New BMW S1000RR confirmed for the end of the month

And two more new models in November

AN updated S1000RR will be among three new bikes to be unveiled by BMW on September 30 at the Intermot Cologne motorcycle show, the firm has announced.

A further two new models will be unveiled at the Milan show on November 5, BMW said.

The new models are likely to include the S1000-based adventure-tourer, thought to be called the S1000XR, which Visordown revealed in spy shots in August and March.

Others could be the liquid-cooled 1200 boxer sports tourer spied in June, the K1600 bagger spied the same month and the new water-cooled R1200R whose existence was confirmed last week by emmissions documents.

The updated S1000RR is likely to have gained electronics upgrades including the addition of cornering ABS, designed to prevent the tyres from washing out under braking even when banked over in a turn.

KTM introduced the Bosch-developed system on the 1190 Adventure this year. It also stops the tendency of the bike to stand up and go straight on under braking in a corner.

Visordown recently revealed the system was to be made available as a retro-fit option on the highest spec version of the S1000RR, the HP4. With the HP4 discontinued from next year, the updated base editionĀ is likely to have gained all its electronics.

BMW said in a statement: 'As many as three new BMW Motorrad models see their world premiere at the international motorcycle trade fair Intermot at the beginning of October... Two more new models will be presented to the public for the first time two weeks later at the international motorcycle trade fair Eicma in Milan.'

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad's head of sales and marketing, added: 'Intermot is one of the biggest motorcycle trade fairs in the world and provides the perfect setting for us to present our new models. Here we will be showing the new BMW S 1000 RR for the first time. Trade fair visitors can also look forward to two other world premieres as well as numerous highlights at our trade fair stand. So our model offensive continues to advance at full pace.'
