Honda’s sleek new Gold Wing hits selected dealers

HONDA’S latest version of the GL1800 hits dealers this spring, now styled as a sleek looking ‘bagger’. The three-strong line-up covers the Gold Wing Tour and Gold Wing Tour with DCT & Airbag, with the new ‘Wing priced at £22,229.

Honda have selected 13 of the best dealers in the UK to sell the new bike, picking those with the greatest knowledge of the technologically advanced machine.

The new Gold Wing takes on a sleeker form with the large top-box now gone in favour of a sleeker, more compact tail unit. There’s also a shorter, electric screen that creates a tighter and more compact front end, accentuating the base model’s lower-slung silhouette.

Honda have adopted a less is more approach with the new shape GL1800s, with weight savings of 48kg over the old model thanks to chassis and powertrain changes. The result? The new ‘Wing is a much nimbler package, with a revised centre of gravity that genuinely transforms town riding and corner carving on a B-road.

Lifted from the previous model, the horizontally opposed, 1,833cc six-cylinder engine has been comprehensively overhauled. Peak power and torque outputs have risen to 125bhp and 170nm respectively. Transmitting drive to the rear wheel is a six-speed manual gearbox that’s equipped with an assist/slipper clutch that improves the quality of downshifts.

Like all brand-new Honda models, the Gold Wing can be fitted with a Datatool TraKKing Adventure GPS Tracker, free of charge, by the delivering dealer. To activate the tracking facility owners must sign-up to the £9.95 monthly subscription service. A two-year, unlimited mileage warranty and European breakdown cover are also standard issue.
