Harley-Davidson has released initial shots of its new 2017 touring models with the launch of the Milwaukee-Eight V-twin which is set to be its most powerful engine to date.

As revealed on Visordown earlier this month, the new Milwaukee-Eight engine, the ninth two-cylinder engine in the company’s history, as well as a revised front and rear suspension system are the two headline changes for next year’s models.

The design - described as keeping the classic look, sound and feel of a Harley Big Twin engine - is expected to deliver greater engine performance thanks to greater torque and four-valve cylinder heads to produce 50% more intake and exhaust flow capacity.

Despite the jumps in power the Milwaukee-Eight engine is predicted to give a better fuel economy compared to the older models with attention has been given to reduce the vibration in idle to retain its smooth style.

The engine has been produced with three options: the Milwaukee-Eight 107 (1745cc) or the Twin-Cooled 107 are available for the standard motorcycle models and a larger Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 114 (1870cc) for CVO customers.

“Pre-load can now be adjusted to match the load of rider, passenger and gear without tools or an air pump,” said Paul James, Harley-Davidson Director of Motorcycle Product Planning. “Once set, the pre-load will not leak down or require further adjustment.”

The initial models to be revealed with the latest engines and suspension include:

  • CVO Limited
  • CVO Pro Street Breakout
  • CVO Street Glide
  • Road Glide Special
  • Road Glide Ultra
  • Road King
  • Road King Classic
  • Street Glide Special
  • Trike
  • Ultra Limited
  • Ultra Limited Low

“These are the most powerful, most responsive and most comfortable Touring motorcycles ever offered by Harley-Davidson,” said Scott Miller, Vice-President of Styling and Product Development Strategy. “The unmistakable look, sound and feel of Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles rise to even greater heights with the improvements we’ve made this year. You truly have to ride it to feel it – so we’re inviting all riders to go to their local dealer and take a test ride.”
