KAWASAKI continues to wheel out the goods at the Tokyo Moto Show as they have officially pulled the covers off the Kawasaki ZX-25R and it’s screaming four-cylinder 250cc engine.
The idea of Kawasaki reimagining the screaming heyday of the grey import sportsbikes has been mooted for some time now – we even ran some computer-generated images of what the new machine could look like a couple of months ago.
And in truth, the pictures from our friends at Young Machine magazine weren’t very far off the mark. The bike unveiled last night in Tokyo is a 249cc, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled machine. With DOHC and 16-valves and a trellis frame not dissimilar to that seen on the Ninja 650. Front forks are Showa Separate Function Big Piston Forks with a horizontally mounted shock at the rear. The brakes shown are Kawasaki’s in-house calipers, mounted radially on the stanchions.
The new machine also boasts a host of tech that we’d normally only see on larger sports motorcycles from Kawasaki, such as power modes, a quickshifter, and traction control. Sadly, any stats on the engine’s internal specification are as yet unknown.

The ZX-25R isn’t the only new metal from Kawasaki at the show, they also unveiled the supercharged Z H2, the W800 – if there is more to come from the show, we’ll bring you all the news as we have it.
