First Look: 250bhp Sheene Icon

Stunning tribute or extravagance gone too far?

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE-BASED bike manufacturer Icon Motorcycles has built an eye-catching 250BHP, £107,000 motorcycle, as a tribute to former double 500cc World Champion Barry Sheene.

The bike's the brainchild of Andrew Morris and has been built using a host of top-end materials and craftsmen.

Endorsed by Sheene’s widow, Stephanie, and by ex-team mate and best mate Steve Parrish, just 52 Icon Sheenes are planned to be built—one for each year of Barry’s life.

The 250bhp engine is a hand-built around an all-aluminum, purpose-built Spondon tubular frame, coupled to an aluminum Fabrication Techniques swing-arm with Bitubo rear suspension and USD forks.

Carbon-fibre wheels, ISR calipers, carbon-fibre bodywork and a plethora of other expensive parts make up the exotic machine.

Mmmm. Not sure what the great man would make of this one himself. Personally, I'd have been more impressed by a top-spec two-stroke 500cc grand prix replica.
