Brewing up a Strom...

...New Suzuki adventure bike coming this weekend

SUZUKI is set to reveal details of its first major 2012 model this weekend when it takes the wraps off a new mid-range adventure bike.

Presumably replacing the current DL650 V-Strom, the new machine has been revealed in a series of teaser sketches on Suzuki's website that show something that appears to be a pretty predictable update on the old V-Strom theme – twin headlights, high-level pipe on the right hand side and a stance that shouts 'road-going adventure-style bike'.

In case there was any doubt, the teasers include the text “Time for real adventures” and the unusually-phrased “Middle-class new motorcycle coming soon.”

Just how soon? Saturday, June 11.

There's been plenty of speculation around the bike's mechanical components. The fact it's stated to be a middle-class bike suggests we're talking about something in the V-Strom 650 range rather than a replacement for the now-discontinued 1000cc version. The existing 650cc V-twin engine has some life left in it but there are rumours it's capacity could be boosted to nearer 800cc to provide a rival to Triumph's Tiger 800 and BMW's F800GS. Other, wilder rumours have mentioned shaft-drive, although that's unlikely on a middleweight machine.

More info will be revealed on Saturday.
