Aprilia to join the 250 battle?

RS4 250 rumoured

COULD Aprilia be the next firm to enter the increasingly competitive market for small sports bikes – challenging the Honda CBR250R and Kawasaki Ninja 300 with its own circa-250cc machine?

That’s the word on the web at the moment, and while there are no spy pictures or hard details to back it up, the move makes sense. The 250 market looks set to boom in places like India and Indonesia and suits the latest A2 category licence laws in Europe too. Yamaha has recently confirmed a new 250cc sports bike for 2014, Triumph is planning its own machine of that size and KTM is going half-a-size bigger with its Duke 390-derived ‘Moto3’ sports bike next year.

Of course, the number ‘250’ and Aprilia have a long and illustrious history. While there’s no chance the firm would make any new 250cc sports bike a two-stroke, sadly ruling out the return of the RS250, the idea of an RS4 250 is still an intriguing one.
