TRIUMPH’S best-selling roadster range gets a new stablemate for 2020 in the form of the revised Street Triple R.

Following on from the 2020 Street Triple RS and S, the R gets the same styling overhaul, with more aggressive body panels and the new sleeker twin headlights. Alongside the visual changes, the mid-spec Street Triple is now equipped with a Euro5 compliant engine, which features less inertia than before and 116hp and 77Nm (59ft-lbs) of torque.

The chassis of the Street Triple has always been one of the standout features, with sublime handling that supersport levels of feel and control being the defining characteristics. For 2020 Triumph has gone with the tried and tested combination of Brembo M4 Monobloc calipers, Showa Big Piston Forks and Showa rear shock. Having ridden the previous generation Street Triple R, I’m more than happy that Triumph is sticking with this setup, it’s compliant and comfortable but has enough adjustability to keep performance-oriented riders happy.

Now standard fitment on the model, the bike comes equipped with the Triumph Shift Assist quickshifter and blipper. While the system offers no variation in the immediacy of the shift, it is about as accurate and well set up as a factory quickshifter gets!

The final major point to make regarding the new 2020 Triumph is it is coming in with higher spec than before but for less money. The new bike could be sat in your garage for £8,900, a saving of £400 over the outgoing bike - £9,300. With PCP deals on the previous model coming in at under £100 per month on a PCP deal, it makes Triumph’s latest roadster seem very good value indeed.

Alongside the Street Triple R is the option to spec the bike as a Low Ride Height (LRH) version, dropping the seat to 780mm from the standard bike’s 825mm item.
