£60k Wayne Rooney chopper on auction

Dribble or pass?

FOR £60,000 you'd be able to park pretty much any bike you fancied in your garage. Desmosedici RR? Have a couple! How about a Honda NR750 or a handful of RC30s? You could probably even bag some real history with an ex-MotoGP or WSB machine if you search hard enough.

Or you could get this. A chopper designed, apparently, by footballer Wayne Rooney. It's expected to go for between £40,000 and £60,000 when it goes under the hammer at Bonhams auction of Sports Memorabilia in Chester on 20 February.

The WR10, by Danish bike firm Lauge Jensen, includes an autographed Rooney shirt lacquered into the top of the fuel tank, a shift rod incorporating 21 black diamonds and a Rooney picture airbrushed into the rear mudguard.

Rooney is quoted as saying: “I was really excited to have the opportunity to be involved in the design of a unique ‘Wayne Rooney’ Lauge Jensen custom bike.

"The bike we have designed takes its inspiration from the celebration of my overhead kick against Manchester City last season. The goal has been described by others as being of the highest quality and technical excellence, powerful and beautiful.”

We don't want to be too tough on it, as the bike is being auctioned for charity, with the money going to KidsAid, a Danish charity that helps young people affected by illness.

Rooney said: “The fact that the funds raised will go to kids in Denmark is a great way for me, on behalf of all the players at Manchester United, to say ‘thank you’ for the support we receive from the Danish people.”
