UK Powered Two Wheeler sales from the last decade

The figures make stark reading but after the ecomonic meltdown is the industry on the rise again?

THE graph above shows the sales of Powered Two Wheelers (PTW) in the UK over the last decade.

The figures, compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Association, were published in a recent article in British Dealer News.

Sales in 2010 shrunk by over 43% compared to sales at the start of the decade. The total number of PTWs sold in 2001 was 169302 and in 2010 this figure dropped to 95921.

Despite the bleak graph, the motorcycle industry as a whole is confident for 2011. Managing Directors of leading motorcycle marques are predicting a further decline for 2011 but much smaller than we've seen in the past three years. There is a quiet optimism for the market towards the end of 2011 and throughout 2012.
