Visordown last minute MotoGP ride shock

Well nearly, we will though be riding a BMW S1000RR in the circuit inspection laps prior to each race at this weekend's British MotoGP round at Silverstone

VISORDOWN will be playing a part in this weekend’s GoPro MotoGP event as we have secured a place on the circuit inspection team.

Before each race we will be riding the BMW S1000RR safety bikes around Silverstone’s iconic, and newly resurfaced Tarmac, checking the safety teams are in place and ensuring the circuit is suitable for racing.

As part of the designated track safety team, no pressure there then! To carry out the check we will line up at the head of the grid alongside the BMW supplied safety car, leading off around the track as the MotoGP teams and riders wait patiently behind us for their green-flag lap.

The inspection laps are there to ensure that all trackside marshal’s posts, and circuit support vehicles are ready to accept a field of ultra-competitive MotoGP racers travelling at up to 200mph. They are also in place to ensure that no changes to the track surface have occurred since the status of the race – either wet or dry – has been called.

Hopefully, the latter point above won’t be an issue as the circuit looks (at this time anyway) to be bathed in sunshine and baking in high 20° temperatures for the duration of the event.

This won’t be the first time we’ve had the opportunity to ride Silverstone’s new surface, having taken part in one of Yamaha’s awesome R1M Masterclass trackdays already this year. To read that article, click here.
