Video: MotoGP stars take Ice Bucket Challenge

Rossi, Marquez, Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Hayden take a soaking for charity

A STRING of MotoGP stars have appeared on YouTube having buckets of ice water poured over their heads as a challenge to raise money for charity.

Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden have taken up the Ice Bucket Challenge and shared the footage online.

Valentino Rossi’s effort, above, sees him pour a small bucket over his own head only then to have a much bigger one thrown over him from off camera.

Hayden's challenge sees him and his dad take a soaking in an open-top car.

The Ice Bucket Challenge is raising money to fight motor neurone disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

Everyone to film themselves taking a soaking nominates someone else, who is challenged to either do the same or donate $100 (£60) to the ALS Association.

Many do both, and those who choose to take the challenge help raise awareness of ALS (especially if they happen to be world-famous MotoGP riders).

More than 1.2 million people have shared Ice Bucket Challenge videos online since June 1 including Bill Gates and singer Taylor Swift, leading to a tenfold increase in donations to the ALS Association.
