Rally your MP to sign against Off-Road Bill

Visordown's leading the campaign against ludicrous bill

VISORDOWN is backing the campaign to lobby your MP to vote against a new Off-Road Vehicles (registrations) Private Members Bill, that the motorcycle industry as a whole believes will have limited or no effect on the mini-bike problem.

Graham Stringer is the man proposing the bill, and clearly he has little or no understanding of UK motorcycling. The Bill is recommending a compulsory, retrospective, registration scheme of all off road motor vehicles as a method of dealing with the misuse of mini-bikes.

There are already twelve laws in place that can be used to deal with the issue of misuse of mini bikes and this proposed extra law, which would not come into place for many months, would have a limited effect on the illegal users who already would have little regard for the current law.

The scheme will be costly to implement and legitimate sport, like Club Racing, will become even more expensive and bureaucratic. The number plates could be dangerous, as they would be likely to break and could be hazardous when racing or competing.

In 2006, there was a significant reduction in interest and the number of Chinese imports fell by 59%. This 'crash' in the market can be attributed to parental awareness, mini-bikes going out of fashion and more localised action by police, residents and authorities.

So what can you do?

You can contact your MP and ask them to sign the Early Day Motion as created by MP Anne Main.

The link to the EDM is here and you can contact your MP and point them to the EDM, via this website, here.

Visordown is running a thread on the topic, here so check in to add your support and the feedback from your local MP!

Please pass this on to your friends and other forums, so we can spread the word and use the biker community to get this ridiculous bill scrapped.
