Motorcyclist claims against Shumacher over road accident

The F1 champion allegedly knocked man off his motorcycle after failing to give way at a roundabout

A MOTORCYCLIST involved in a road accident with Michael Schumacher just weeks before the former F1 champion's ski crash has launched a compensation claim.

The Spanish rider is accusing Schumacher of knocking him off his motorcycle after he failed to give way at a roundabout in Bormujos, near Seville.

In an accident report, police have said poor lighting on the approach to the roundabout could also be to blame for the incident, which took place on November 17 last year.

The unnamed motorcyclist is claiming compensation for a broken wrist, and damages to his motorcycle, watch, and clothes.

Schumacher, who has been named in the complaint along with the car hire company that rented him the Audi A4, has been in a medically-induced coma since suffering a head injury from a ski crash in the French Alps on December 29 last year.

A trial will only take place if insurers contest the claim, Schumacher would not be obliged to attend.

The 45-year-old’s manager Sabine Kehm has said Michael is making progress.

She said at the start of the month: 'He shows moments of consciousness and awakening.

'We are on his side, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we keep remaining confident.'
