Italian GP guru leads trio of Honda riders in testing

VALENTINO Rossi stamped his authority all over the recent Le Mans MotoGP test. The Italian dominated the day's testing, with a best time that took half-a-second off his current lap record, which he set on his 990cc Yamaha last year.

The Yamaha squad were disappointed with Sunday's rain-lashed French Grand Prix and spent two days testing at the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans.

With a run of six key races coming up in just two months, the team worked on an array of different aspects of the bike and team setup, as they look to give themselves the best possible package with which to fight over the most intense part of the season.

As ever much of the test was given over to tyre testing with Michelin, the new tyre regulations this year meaning that post-race tests such as these hold even more importance for the French manufacturer.

Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi also tried some new chassis modifications in order to improve the stability of the M1 and Rossi also tested some new engine parts.

All the MotoGP teams have a 'week off' before the first of two Italian races this year. The Grand Prix of Italy in Mugello will on commence on Friday June 1st.
