MotoGP: Rossi remains unbeaten at Mugello

Fantasic race proves Rossi can defeat Ducati's pace

VALENTINO Rossi won at Mugello for the sixth year in a row, maintaining his 100% record in the Italian MotoGP and proving that, despite the huge long straight, Yamaha have what it takes to get one-up on Ducati.

Qualifying in third position, Rossi looked good for the race but no-one could doubt Stoner's run of form and the Ducati Desmosedici's staggering straight-line speed.

Rossi had an average start and found himself in fifth place for the first few laps, but then Italian soon got into his groove and started picking off the pack, taking the lead on lap nine and from thereon dominated the proceedings.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa couldn't get the advantage over Rossi and didn't look to have enough in him to do anything more than just keep up.

Surprise of the weekend was Alex Barros, who put himself back on the map with an amazing third place on his privateer Ducati, knocking factory Ducati rider and MotoGP championship leader, Casey Stoner, off the podium.

Stoner's overall championship lead was cut to nine points by Rossi. The headstrong young Australian would do well to not let the Italian maestro start working his mind-game magic, but the pressure's clearly back on.
