Ducati 1098 under pressure to perform

New Ducati voted most beautiful but will it win road tests?

THE NEW Italian-built Ducati 1098 has been voted 'Most Beautiful Motorcycle of the Show' at the Italian 2006 Milan show.

This somewhat surprising verdict came from over 24,000 Italian motorcycling enthusiasts who participated in a competition organised by the Italian magazine 'Motociclismo', which carried out a survey among the Italian visitors.

The new Italian Superbike from Borgo Panigale (Italy) won over 30% of the Italian vote, followed " at a considerable distance " by the Italian MV Agusta Brutale 910R.

The prize-giving took place yesterday afternoon, on the Motolive stage in the presence of Italian Costantino Ruggero, the director of the Italian show.

The award highlights the huge Italian public enthusiasm for this new Italian bike and provides further confirmation of the enormous amount of energy and resources the Italian Ducati company is channelling into new Italian product development.

Equipped with the new 160hp 'Testastretta Evoluzione' engine (the most powerful twin- cylinder production engine in the world " never mind Italy), the Ducati 1098 offers the world's highest torque/weight ratio (the S version weighs just 171kg) for a twin-cylinder sports production bike.

With everything already in place for the market launch, the new bike will be in Ducati showrooms this December.
