Chaz Davies to race in US AMA Supersport class

Young GP hopeful is heading Stateside to race for Yamaha

CHAZ Davies will be racing a Yamaha YZF-R6 in the AMA Supersport class in 2007. The young GP hopeful had a terrible season in the MotoGP GP250 class and was even seen testing the Buff Supersport Kawasaki towards the end of the season. Things were looking grim for the young talent from Wales, but now the tables have turned with this new Celtic Racing deal.

Davies, who trialled the Yamaha at one round this season, impressed potential backers by putting the heat on champion Jamie Hacking, showing he has the potential to win in 2007. Young Chaz cut his teeth on the European circuits and impressed in 125cc and 250cc, despite riding for privateer teams unable to compete fully with works-backed bikes, he on occasion proved he had the mettle.

After riding for the Aprilia Germany team, a move to Campetella turned sour after the team lost almost all of its sponsorship and was forced to drop Davies in search of a rider who could inject financial backing. He will now leave in December for the USA, where he will begin tyre testing for his new team in Daytona, Florida.
