BSB: Oulton Park race report

Ducati and Honda share the honours at Oulton

DUCATI AND HONDA shared the spoils of success at Oulton Park over the weekend. Round four of the British Superbike Championship headed north to the notoriously difficult, fast, flowing Cheshire circuit.

Gregorio Lavilla and Leon Haslam finished first and second in the first race, while the defending champion, Ryuichi Kiyonari took the last spot on the podium, some consolation after the hard fought 17-lap race where, despite Kiyo taking the holeshot, Ducati's preparation and race-pace couldn't be faulted.

Tom Sykes showed huge talent and commitment throughout the race weekend and in Race 1, he ran in fourth place, well on the pace. The Honda's of Sykes, Camier and Byrne all swaped places throughout the race and in the end, Shakey Byrne was beaten by his team mate Sykes.

Race 2

Kiyonari took the second race win in tough conditions. Clearly Kiyo was determined to better his Race 1 result and show Ducati what a Honda can do in the right hands.

Leon Haslam scored his second podium of the day with a second place finish. Shane Byrne, who has had a terrible season start, fought his way to third place, a great result following his double DNF at Silverstone last weekend.

Tom Sykes went like a NASA rocket off the line, taking the holeshot but closely followed by Tommy Hill on his Virgin Media Yamaha. Haslam dug deep and used his vast experience to get into the mix, seeing off Hill and then Sykes. Shakey Byrne reeled in the young pair to steal the last place on the podium.
