BMW Motorrad hits half-year sales record

Unhindered by recalls, BMW achieves all-time six-month sales high

BMW MOTORRAD has hit an all-time six-month sales record during the first half of 2014.

Despite BMW Motorrad having severe issues with its R1200RT, saying there is no guarantee a component in the rear suspension will not fail and telling customers they ‘must not be ridden’, the German firm has sold 70,978 motorcycles and maxi-scooters so far this year. That’s 9.3% up on the same period last year.

Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing, said: ‘We have achieved an all-time six-month high in the first half of this year. Never before have we sold this many vehicles in the first six months of a year,

‘With an increase of 9.3% in the first half of 2014, we remain on course to achieve an all-time sales high for the year as a whole.’

With 15,000 units sold worldwide already, the R1200GS is BMW’s best-selling bike this year, followed by the R1200GS Adventure model having sold 9,708 units and the R1200RT with 7,420 units.
