Watch: a lap of the 2018 Welsh Road Race

Wondering what the circuit’s going to be like in the 2018 Welsh Road Race? Don’t. Just look.

ROAD racing is set to come to the UK mainland in 2018 with a new event in Wales in August.

Organisers of the recently-announced Welsh Road Race include Derek Smith, Chairman of the Irish Aberdare Park road race, while former BSB and TT winner Steve Plater is involved.

It’s Plater who talks us through the above lap of the 5.25-mile course on narrow roads in the Brecon Beacons, where more than 80 riders have already expressed an interest in competing next year.

The event is backed by TT legend John McGuinness as brand ambassador while the clerk of the course will be Gary Thompson, who performs the same role in the Isle of Man races.

The race will be modelled on the time-trial format of the TT with riders setting off in pairs at 10-second intervals.

The Welsh Road Race, also branded as Eppynt Welsh TT Ltd, is set to take place on August 4-5, 2018.
