DUCATI CEO Claudio Domenicali has reignited rumours of a scooter from the firm by saying in an interview it ‘could be a way forward’.
Stories of a scooter from the Bologna marque surfaced back in 2011 after the launch of the cruiser-style Diavel, which made such an out-of-character move seem possible. But at the time Ducati boss Gabriele Del Torchio denied the rumours, saying there was no scooter ‘in mind’.
So it’s intriguing that current the CEO gave a more equivocal response when asked recently about the possibility of a Ducati scooter by Italian site Moto.it.
Asked if we could expect a Ducati scooter, and whether it wouldn’t be ‘a kind of blasphemy’ for the exclusive marque, Domenicali said: ‘A scooter marked Ducati is not blasphemy - we never said nor think.
‘Our brand is a brand very characterised in a sporting sense, with values ??that can be reflected in any type of product - even a coffee cup, so to speak.
‘So, calling it the right way, even a scooter could be a way forward.’
It wouldn’t be the first Ducati scooter. The firm produced a 175cc scooter called the Cruiser from 1952 to 1954, and another called the Brio in 48, 80 and 94cc variants from 1963 to 1967.
