Jumpstarted my bike but then it cut out, and now it won't jumpstart anymore

I found my bike with a flat battery yesterday morning (possibly I could have left the parking lights on, but not sure if there s a deeper fault). I managed to jumpstart it off my mum's car and it started up fine. But while I was putting it back together, I noticed the fuel injection light was on. I revved the bike a bit and the light went off. This happened a few times, but then it cut out, and we tried jumping it again and it wouldn't work. Could I have revved it too high and blown something? (it's a Ninja 250)

Nah not really. It sounds like either the battery's toasted, or there's a charging system fault, or both. If you get it started again, measure the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running, and note the voltage at idle, 3k rpm, 5k rpm and 7k. If it's below about 12.5V or above 15 then you've got a problem that could give you the symptoms you describe. If the battery was flat and then you connected a ruddy great car battery to it then it might've damaged the battery - essentially the massive influx of current bends the battery's plates. Jump-starting should only ever be a last resort.
