Apprilla Pegaso what engine

Am I mistsken is the Apprilla Peg engine similar to the Yam XT600 lump? do the share bits?

What are the major problems with these bikes?

BD

Good evening.I am french, i have 2 pegaso 600 whiche are fitted with the 560 Rotax air cooled, 4 valves, with a single dell'orto carburetor. The pegaso 600 was built between 89 and 93. All the pegaso 650 were fit with a 652 cm3 Rotax liquid cooled, 5 valves. first version  was built between 92 and 97. the pegaso cube 97/2001. the pegaso ie was fitted with a magneti marelli injection instead of the double Mikuni carburator. The pegaso 4 (2004), 659 cm3 is fit now with the same engine as the yamaha xt 660 but with 4 valves. This engine is built in Italy by minarelli. I hope that is a temporary  solution, aprilia (Gilera, piaggio) make very good 4 stokes engines now.Best regards FrédéricI have made a blog in french about the pegaso 600Try on google: le blog de la pegaso 600 canablog

I HAD A MARK 2 650 PIGARSOLE UNTIL THE STARTER CLUTCH WENT BANG. IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM, SO ANY RATTLING NOISES ON START UP WILL MEAN A £650 REPAIR BILL. ALSO THE CARBS ARE SHITE, THE REAR SHOCKS WEAR, THE BRAKES ARE CRAP AND YOU CAN'T GET SPARES FOR THEM, THEY'RE A PIG TO CHANGE THE OIL ON, THE PIPES ROT, THE FORKS ARE WIERD, AND CHANGING SEALS IS A BITCH OF A JOBTHE BRAKE DISCS WEAR OUT, THEY SPIT OIL INTO THE AIRBOX, THE INDICATOR RELAY IS POOP (REPLACE WITH CHINESE COPY FOR A FIVER) THE FRONT BRAKE LEVER SWIVEL GETS CLOGGED UP AND THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH STOPS WORKINGSO IN SUMMARY THEY'RE GREAT !IF YOU NEED ANY BODY WORK I'VE GOT SEVERAL BITS AND PIECES HERE, ALSO SEVERAL OTHER PARTS.TOOK IT ALL OFF BEFORE I DECIDED TO FIX THE BIKE PROPERLY WITH MY FOOT, A BIG HAMMER, A CHAINSAW, AND SEVERAL GALLONS OF SHEEP DIP.

What bits do you have and where are you?

Did 8400miles on mine over two summers, only problems I had was it was a bugger to start if left standing for more than two-three days, had to be bumped off down a bloody big hill in front of my house.Oil change is dead easyRear Shock will be shot by 25,000 milesBrakes are fine, use EBC HH PadsThey dont spit oil into the airbox unless you ride it like a twat.DO NOT TRY TO START ONE WITH A DEAD/FLAT OR DODGY BATTERY you'll fook the Sprag Clutch = Bloody expensive.Sold it with 28,000 on the clock last october, apart from snapping a chain, and the above starting issue, never missed a beat even in last summers (2007) monsoon season .

Hi, I own a 1997 Pegaso with a Rotax 650 five valve engine. I am please with the bike but it runs very hot, right on the edge of the temperature gauge red section, & the fan runs almost continually. Is this normal or do I have a problem child??

Your hot engine could be wrong spark plug or the head gasget could blowing

My guess is the head gasket. Picking my Peg up today after a new head gasket and jetting work. Ran too rich, occasionally fouling the plug. A full on blast to ride. Very planted and quite comfortable for long rides.Love passing sport bikes in the twisties with the top box mounted.

Can anyone post a video  of how to change oil or basic maintenance for Pegaso 600? Thank you
