I didn't think it was from your reaction. The problem with no non-verbal cues.

No worries. I will take your word for it.

Feel free to place your own incorrect spin on it if you like but what was actually said was:

I agree action is required. However I'm sure there are a lot more things involved in running the site than simply ensuring the users don't have to use email/MSN or any other form of contact open to them, or that they don't have to use a third party image hosting site.I'm also sure that Admin has set the priority accordingly and will get round to it just as soon as he can.

The FACT is, no change is gonna happen over night, hence I have suggested workarounds in the mean time. I know its not ideal, but it is all there is for me to offer at this moment in time. As soon as something is worked out for the better we will let you know.

Top bloke (as usual).

What he said, strangely enough all those who wanted to genuinely support visordown are those whose renewal is now coming up and are finding their attachment and pm limits are now full, and we've got these bloody awful ads for TWO magazine all over the shop.If you post on the original thread you seem to get abuse from Abel (although I do feel sorry for him, as he is the one who is holding the fort).Anyway, luckily we are not a subsidiary of TWO, as the level of contribution from them would appear to be shameful to say the least. I cant be arsed to post in all the bolloxs, but just have a look at the TWO forum for further details.Or how about Dagored's opinion of us:www.visordown.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4987284&postcount=8www.visordown.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4987337&postcount=10Just a couple of recent snippets, which for me would appear to sum it up.Oh yes, and if you do complain you are asked why you have not put it in Oi Admin, well peeps have, nothing would appear to have been done. What with the proportion of idiots being attracted to the place going up, it is just lucky that all the other sites out there seem to be at just a low standard. Luckily for visordown, it is so much better than the competition, that it has a way to sink before it reaches the shitty level of the likes of MCN.Yes, I realise that it must be difficult for Ben, as the site is going in a new direction, but shouldn't somebody at Magiliwotsits be giving him some decent marketing and sales advice? Err we buy the product and then leave the same guy to run it without giving him any advice. Note I said advice, it should still be Ben's final input, as the day that a publisher makes any decisions will be when the site is well and truely fucked. And yes, I do find the TWO editorial staff comments slightly derogatory. It would appear that unless you want to charge round on the latest missile in the latest leathers, you are not a part of 'biking' any more. Look at your catchment audience, what I have always liked about this place is the broad spectrum in here.Nice to know that I am no longer considered a 'biker', whatever that term means any more.EDIT: I'm not changing my comments, but reading back, I think they are unduly harsh on Abel. I think 'abuse' is too strong a word. I have a feeling that it is his frustration that is showing more than anything. In my book, he still gets top marks for bothering to respond.

That was another of my ponderings: the two 'debates' have been "do you nod at other bikers" and "are women any good at riding bikes". Whoop-de-fucking-doo!How about "how will Toseland do in MotoGP", "are the manufacturers missing the point with hyperbikes" or "isn't it shameful how difficult it is to get a bike licence these days"...

Quite. So a non point you have made. Not like you.

You are not considered a biker by some and are by others.Surely that's just the broad spectrum at work?TWO aren't visordown, and what they do or don't think of you has absolutely no relevance to the subject in hand.Whilst I agree the attitude you have pointed out does little to encourage sales from the users of the site, that is their lookout and nothing whatsoever to do with VD.Feel free to discuss it, but I would suggest another thread would be the place.

Again, nothing visordown can do about that.I would suggest emailing someone at TWO.

Sorry Abel, but whose name is on the lunchtime debate threads? Not TWO; "Admin". Ergo, it's visordown.

i just dont like the ads

Thanks for the PM Abel (I'm guessing I can't reply)... I'll keep checking back to see of any updates, but unfortunately the removal of adverts and large PM space was a big draw for me personally - particularly the advert issue as I surf at work I'm not having a go at anyone about the whys or wherefores, but I do feel that it will be a bugbear for a lot of posters. Nice to see that you are taking the time to at least respond to folks concerns though Abel and it is appreciated

Yep, you and a lot of others, and as I keep saying it WILL be worked on, but unfortunately it is a job for Admin and one of 101 such tasks. Some of which have to take priority at the moment.Suffice to say you arent the only ones nagging him tho. I fully expect Zanx and myself to be put on block soon.

Not by all it appears.

I predicted this back in 2001

You're gonna flame me for this... but hey, what the hell... I have this image of you as one of the Easyjet girls at the ticket desk as all their Heathrow flights have been grounded and no refunds or exchanges are allowed

firefox and ad blocker pro and the adblock filterset.g updater - all free and works a treat.

I've read and taken onboard all of the posts here. I did not want people feeling like they are being left out in the cold, so the Supporter-reminder email now points to this thread so I can gather feedback. The reason I decided to stop renewing subs is that I did not feel people should be paying a Supporter fee for extra access and features. I've changed the PM limit to 100 and the attachment limit is now 80MB. I'm a regular user of a few other forums, and their attachment limit is 10MB max PM limit is 20 - I find this ample. I hope 100 PMs and 80MB is enough, if not, let me know.It would have been easy to carry on and keep asking for £10, but then this would have caused more problems later, with a switch over to another system. Not to mention the 100s of posts from people saying - quite rightly - why should I be a Supporter now? So I thought it best to take a break and think about a new system. If you want to download your PMs, you can click here: www.visordown.com/forums/private.php?do=downloadpm&dowhat=txtI appreciate you're used to the features and you're annoyed that some of them have gone. I do want to bring in another Supporter-style system. I appreciate you don't want the ads in threads, you want more PM space, more attachment space and most of all, new features. Abel has posted losts of useful info in this thread to help you out and there's other info to help soften the blow too.If I've not answered yout question, please let me know.

As long as you can appreciate our frustration at the situation - those people that have happily contributed to the site now get reduced features, whereas those people that didn't get more! I can see that it is a rock and a hard place as there will always be people to question and/or complain. My preferred option would be as a prior supporter to be given the option to pay a (perhaps reduced) fee to remove the ads and re-inflate PM space. Even now that visordown is a commercial entity I personally still feel it would be money well spent! Just my tuppence worth though...

Interesting thread, just left me wondering which of the many moaners have set up their own ''NEW VD''? Any?

Cheers for the update Ben Hope what ever you're doing/thinking about comes on line sooner rather than later, as I've said before I'm more than happy to subscribe to VD, if only to get rid of the ads

Abel wrote

Yet some have felt the need to panic delete all their attachments and then moan as if that is our fault.

That'll be me then. Panic delete? Not exactly. Can't add any more, can't be bothered to sort through them to make space. Bzzzzzzzzzt.Usually, the thing about uploads is that they are uploaded for others' benefit and add to the 'forum experience' for all. Sometimes that's not true...but, as the upload space issue has been addressed, I guess I'm not far wrong.

Cheers Ben for the update as it has answered the question i put and the raising of the limit has resolved the problem i had too. I had deleted some of the older attachments already but hadnt done a panic mass swoop on the others

What about the User Profile "Last Activity" feature? Now I've become an ex-supporter it just gives a time, where before it gave information about what the user was doing - like viewing or replying to a specified thread. It's not the end of the world that it's gone but I found that feature useful for a variety of reasons and its absence serves to further lessen the visordown experience, adding that little bit more to the 'deprived' feeling I've had since losing supporter status. And er, yes I'm still here

So, are there any more sandwiches?

I'll double that tuppence .. my sentiments exactly!

You are correct. What I meant by panic delete was not waiting until there was a definite outcome one way or another before removing them. It turns out the deletion possibly wasn't necessary.

Bugger, subs expired.Isn't 5 or 6 months long enough to sort out an alternative.I'd have said that if everyone wants to pay the tenner like the old system then fucking well re-instate it.Donate the subs to a charity or something, like the air ambulance.... or towards a VD party somewhere.Just reinstate it right fucking now please.Thank you.

Yeah, I'd have to agree 5+ months is long enough. So what have YOU sorted out in those 5 months? Why should the owner do what 'the masses' want? He built a site, it got popular, he made money. He should get a round of applause, not abuse. If people don't like it they are more than free to set up their own place. Here's a starter for you, www.yourkneedown.com (you can have that idea for free).Let us know once it's up and running and I'll pop on over. Might even give you a tenner. You can keep it or donate it, after all, it'll be YOUR site. And if anyone slags off your business decisions, well I'll be right behind you pal.

You can poke your stupid retort up your festering dung trumpet you pathetic half breed. The masses always know what's right, hadn't you realised that?

I can't argue with that well reasoned and put arguement. Did you want any help with the rest of your homework?

It wasn't meant to be an arguement. Just a good old fashioned insult.

Arguement...........transitive and intransitive verb to give reasons for an opinion in order to support itinter alia.

Knob. You, like Countless others, fall into the brown sphere agenda. Its a bit like a black hole, but Board orientated, whereby you brown it as much as possible in an infantile attempt to gain favour. It's painful to watch.[Stupid alias btw]

I must say,as my sub has just expired, I hate those ads. If I want to buy something I am capable of realising it and sourcing it for myself. I would rather pay a tenner tbh and not have them.Corporate approach and all that...

But you are missing the point old chap. Magicalia appear know little and care less about motorcycling - a quick look at their other interests should confirm that - everything from military models to pregnancy and coarse fishing, all in the one basket. They appear to be simply overseeing a bunch of hacks who will serve their purpose - which is fairly easy to define if you care to pop over to their website. They intend to profile you, categorize you and then use that information to raise advertising revenue to sell things to you.All you have to do is say "Ba!" and follow the flock.

Those ads are very fucking irritating, make em go away please, and NO, I have no intention whatsoever of buying TWO.Perhaps if it were faintly interesting I wouldn't mind having it stuffed throught the letterbox but I get enough junk mail without paying for it.A slightly miffed Scott.
