Want to ride around the coast of Britain.

Hi,

This summer I want to ride around our beautiful coastline. I'm just at the planning stage right now.

Does anyone have any links or know of any books by anyone who might've done it either by bike or cycle or car? I have searched but can't find anything hence the request.

Thanks in advance,

Wombat

Have done the most easterly, westerly, southerly and northerly points of mainland GB, in one five day "trip", but it rained the whole time.Forget it and choose a coastline where you can be sure of some decent weather.

I was thinking of that but refrained from posting, not wanting to add to my reputation as a pernickety old scrote!

You've said summer but not said how long you have for this venture. If you just want to blat round, used to long distances and not see anything then work it out at 350~400 mile days. If on the other hand you have time, want to see stuff then plan it at 250~300 mile days.Camping or accomadation, if the later then you'll need to start booking up now as places tend to be in short supply during the summer hols.Be aware that some of the actual coastal roads are little more than dirt tracks but going round the main road may mean you miss seeing stuff

Hi all,Thanks for those links about the VFR guy and that chap Steve - I've saved those as they'll help with the planning. Basically I've got as much time as I need - will have left my contracted employment by then so it is up to me how long I take. I was thinking somewhere in the region of 5 to 6 weeks for a really leisurely trip and the chance to meet folk on the way round. Thanks again anyway - will post more when I get closer to leaving.

Sounds like a great trip - enjoy it. I suppose if I was doing it I'd probably miss out a lot of the less attractive bits around the south east. You've probably seen the BBC Coast programmes but it might be worth a look at the BBC website for places to visit.

Maybe you could tag on behind these people.www.cbt2007.co.uk/ They seem to have sorted out a route, if nothing else.

looks like a hoor of a journey... its 4k miles long
