Austria

Always wanted to go and ride all those fantastic mountain passess and hairpin bends you see on the telly. Trouble is where the hell do you go to get decent accomodation and be near the right roads?.I have looked on a few websites but to be honest you just get overloaded with information.

My budget isn,t huge but want good quality accomodation with hopefully biker friendley hosts. A list of tried and tested routes would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any advice/comments.

there's plenty biker friendly hostelries & camp sites, the most famous one being www.route69.at there even used to be a motorcycle-oriented mini guide book (in German) available from the Austrian tourist office

Just go there, you'll find countless bike friendly hotels at good prices. I rarely pre-book when I go abroad.Don't restrict to Austria, pop over in to Italy, twisty roads aplenty:

where were those pics taken - wow!.can you give me an area to aim for when looking for good hotels and roads.

Austria is pretty cheap and the food/accommodation is nearly always high quality.I organised a VFR Club trip there in 2004 and we stayed in the Stubai valley just south of Innsbruck at the lovely Hotel Cappella www.hotel-cappella.com/index_en.htmlHowever, a base hotel slightly further east in Zell-am-See nearer the Grossglockner road may be better - THE best road in Europe IMHO www.grossglockner.com/highalpineroad/motorcycle/www.grossglockner.com/static/cms/pdf/motorradhimmel.pdf

EXCELLENT INFO, THANKS. GOT A FEW MORE IDEAS FROM THE STANDS AT THE NEC ON THURSDAY AS WELL
