You know. I always thought that I was a pendant. However I never pick on grammar because IMHO anything posted on or related to speech on the web has a completely different set of rules that as yet have not been fully developed or established let alone accepted and adopted. Instead I choose to pick on the sense of the words and not the words them selves.Any chance of a sub catagory for me?

that really annoys me - if we're not all using the same language rules, how are we supposed to understand each other properly?

If language is a dynamic thing, we will never agree on it.It will depend how old your dictionary is.Can we have a boring old farts poll too.

I would Ben - can Viff have a new title?

We'll make a pedant of you yet! Learning at the feet of a master! As for a title, p'raps not - probably not very flattering.2mths, I don't pick up on others' grammar either, except in a very tongue in cheek way, and with people who will take it as such (I hope!). You and RB both have valid points: we do need to agree certain rules if we are to understand each other, but the type of mistake that we've been dealing with in the above discussions do not impede comprehension. A common one, for example, which frequently crops up on this forum is the "licence/license" and "practice/practise" distinction; but I think it unlikely that these misspellings would ever stop people understanding.

I'm thinking more of poor spelling and the atrocious grammar that means a sentence is difficult to understand even after 3 readings. Also I find the shortening of words a la SMS messaging annoying, it's not needed when you have a full size keyboard and a large amount of space to write in, and it limits understanding.Languages NEED to be dynamic, but there's a difference between understandable progression and complete babylitic anarchy!
