what does TIR mean?

...on the back of trucks?
on the blue rectangular plate.
see it every day,but what does it mean???

French: Transport International Routiers. A sign seen on trucks indicating that their contents do not require customs inspections at borders. With the general removal of border crossing inspections between EU countries on the European mainland, I'm not sure if the TIR system is still in use.

Total Internal Reflection - the basis of operation of fibre optics.

i think i'll go for pajr's answer,sounds the most plausible.just interested,you know.

...but not worth starting a new Thread for:What does HTH on the end of some posts mean?

His answer was rubbish, there was not a single bit of physics in it.

Not quite. It's a UN-sponsored transport scheme which allows trucks travelling across one or more international borders in transit from one country to another to do so without having to pay customs duty at every border. A document is issued to the driver which tells customs what goods are being carried. If the truck fails to turn up, TIR pays the duty due on the goods to the customs in the country where they went missing.Still very much in use across Europe for goods travelling between the EU, Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Russia.

And do all Italian trucks come out of Rimorchio?

Dunno. But all German coaches come from a place called Reisen - well known fact.

Riesen - The Chocolate Chew.I assume you're aware "reisen" is "journeys/travels" in german?
