Anyone used uprated headlight bulbs

Been doing quite a lot of riding in the dark recently and find the headlight quite bad.

The main head light seems to cut out when the two high beams are switched on, but they are all 55 watt bulbs with no lens shaping??

Anyone tried to put something like 75/100 watt bulbs in? Did it make a difference?

Thanks

I have done an easily reversible modification on mine that enables the low beam to stay on when the high beam is switched on.Linky here: http://www.bikersoracle.com/rsv/forum/showthread.php?t=4807&page=2&pp=10Pete

Be careful using higher wattage bulbs - lenses have been known to melt....

What I'm looking for is to be able to see further down the road, this is usually done by 'shaping' the beam through the light lens. However the RSV's lens is clear, so more power seems to be the other option. But I may do your fix as well

I tried a higher wattage bulb on mine and it just drained the shit out of the already crap battery....must get a better battery!!  Although, I have to admit, I ride with my lights on all the time.....now I always switch my lights off when the engine's not running!

Don't have a choice about lights on/offBut I only wanna put higher wattage in main beam

What about the HID bulbs that are for sale of fleabay ??? would they be ok ?sp

I do know of a guy that has fitted proper HID units to his Mille, not the crap Xenon bulbs that they also sell on there. They were OK but you just need to be careful of the heat generated. Not sure of the legal standing of HID's on bikes - On cars, they need to be coupled with a self levelling system and also a washing system

cheers v8 , i have xenon lights on my golf and yes your right they are self leveling , but i thought the light shell + lense controls where the light goes ?for 4.99 i might have alook anyhow .........cheers

Just bought some 80 Watt standard bulbs. Will let you know when I get the bugger running again.

80w will melt your lenseyou can get 55w xenon 30% brighter bulbs....thats your best bet

Never actually tried them in a bike but Osram Silverstar's have a very good reputation in car headlights
