Rideouts: Whitham's 3 of the Best (part 1)

Route 1. Central-West Scotland

Crianlarich A82

Glencoe B863

North Ballachulish

First off I want to let you know about the Scottish route I did with me mates on LCs and two-stroke Jap bikes a while back. All the roads were great, including some that Niall mentions such as the A85 and A82. But there was one which was mint - the B863 Kinlochleven road.

You find the B863 skirting Loch Leven, just about 20 miles shy of Fort William. It's basically a 25-mile or so loop and it's mega. It's perfect for smaller bikes, there are no corners under 80mph and best of all they don't catch you out. You know the way, you go into a corner and it tightens up and you just think 'oh shit'. But with this they all open out and you think to yourself later that you should have gone into it faster. If you crash on this road you really must be dicking about.

Another wonderful touch is the fact that it's like a roller-coaster. It's all up and down and on the Powervalve I was on, it was flat-out. Beautiful
