TRIALS HERO Dougie Lampkin has joined CCM as a brand ambassador.
The twelve times FIM Trial World Champion made the announcement at the London Motorcycle Show today, and will join four times World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty in supporting the Lancashire-founded firm.
As it approaches its fiftieth anniversary, CCM is seeing record orders for its iconic Spitfire model range, one of which Lampkin will soon take delivery of. For the meantime, however, he will be helping with the final development of the Spitfire Six, and so collected the keys for a pre-production model from CCM Managing Director Austin Clews at the show earlier today.
The 42-year-old is a known collector of vintage and retro British bikes, and reportedly fell in love with both the original Spitfire and the Scrambler models when riding them during a Belstaff photoshoot last year.
Fogarty, who has already designed his own signature Spitfire, was present at the show to welcome Lampkin to the family. Lamkin will join him in promoting CCM Motorcycles at various events during 2019. This new partnership won’t affect his existing relationship with Vertigo Motors, for whom he competes on and helps develop their trials bike.
CCM Motorcycles Managing Director Austin Clews said: "I think it is fair to say that the Lampkin family name remains one of the most famous in motorcycling history even today, much due to their sporting success over the last fifty or so years. Dougie's older cousin John actually rode for us in the Trial World Championship back in the eighties, so it is a proud moment for us to have the opportunity to welcome another member of this British motorcycling dynasty to help us reinforce the importance of us still making bikes in the UK today."
"Dougie's own sporting successes speak for themselves, but equally he is a great guy who has a shared passion for what we are doing and has values and experience that are sure to benefit us as a brand as we continue to work on some new and exciting projects. However, for the record, we will not be making another Trial bike - anytime soon."
Lampkin added: "I really love what CCM are doing with the Spitfire, and so do the British customers who have made the first few versions a complete sell out. I have been lucky enough to see what else they have in the pipeline in terms of new models, and there is plenty more to come out of the famous Bolton factory.
“With my own passion for old British bikes and the whole retro scene, I am confident I can add value to some of the new projects they have planned. But right now, my priority is to get as many miles in as possible on the pre-production Spitfire Six so I can give my feedback to the factory."
