Indian launches all new electric motorcycle – sort of!

Indian has announced it is adding an electric dirt bike to the range, in the form of the eFTR JR

INDIAN Motorcycle is jumping on the electrically powered hype sooner than we thought, as they add the kids eFTR JR to the range. And we want one, really badly.

If there is one thing pretty much all motorcyclists want, it’s for their children to follow in their wheel tracks and get on two wheels. Be it sharing ride outs, or long nights in the garage fettling their bikes, watching your kids get the motorcycling bug is a great feeling.

Now fans of America’s oldest motorcycle manufacturer can share the journey with their sprogs, as Indian has added this funky-looking off-road machine to the range. It aimed at children of eight years and older. It comes equipped with two speeds allowing low (10mph) and high (15mph) speeds as the rider progresses. Riding in low will get you around 140mins of riding time, while high will net you just over an hour of high octane, electrically charged fun.

The bike features telescopic front forks and an adjustable rear shock. Stopping power is provided by cable operated brakes at the front and rear.

The styling of the bike is an unapologetic take on the FTR750 flat track racer that’s been storming the dirt-tracks in the US. It’s a bike that’s already spawned its own roadgoing version in the form of the FTR1200 range we have been working our way through in recent months.

As it stands, the eFTR JR is only showing on the US site of Indian Motorcycles, and there is no indication as it if or when the bike could make it to the UK or Europe. It is the most cost effective route into Indian ownership though, coming in at $749.99.

And, yes, we’ve already emailed Indian’s UK PR team to see if they’ll be getting one on the press fleet!
