An application by the National Motorcycle Museum for financial assistance during COVID-19 has been refused by the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage, but a funding page has been set up for those wishing to step in and help.
The application was submitted to try and help the UK’s most important collection of important motorcycles survive the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The museum has not only had lower than normal footfall as a result of COVID-19 to do battle with. The associated conference and two hotel facilities have also been hit hard by local and national lockdown restrictions.
According to the BMF, the museum was told that the application ‘did not meet the criteria for the programme, and the board has decided not to award a grant through the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage.’
Commenting, Museum Director James Hewing said:
“We cannot begin to describe what a bitter blow this news was. We had applied for funding in the under £1 million category in order to help retain all of our expert team of people, as well as preserving the museum's collection of British motorcycles as the largest in the world. These are some of the things that have now been put in jeopardy.”
To try and help out, the museum recently launched a fundraising event that would see three of its prized exhibits up for grabs in a raffle.
1st prize: 1977 Norton Commando 850cc, 2nd prize: 1948 Ariel NG 350cc, and 3rd prize: 1959 BSA B31 350cc.
