THE North Yorkshire Police’s off-road motorcycle team just got a little bit faster, as a British enduro champion has joined the fight against anti-social behaviour.

PC Ellie Cooke and the rest of the team all ride Honda CRF250L enduro machines, probably a much tamer machine than the former champion is used to.

PC Cooke is a two-time British Enduro Champion, winning the 2019 British Ladies Enduro Championship, and the 2019 British Ladies Sprint Championship. Proof if it were needed she is more than up to the task of keeping up with illegally ridden off-road motorcycles.

She said:

“When I heard about the off-road motorcycle team, I knew that this would be the perfect role me, as I could transfer my off-road riding skills into work.

“I knew from a young age I wanted to be a police officer, and there is nothing better than being able to do the job I love while riding a motorbike! I am looking forward to my new role in the team, and I am excited to see what we can achieve together.”

The team of specially trained officers will be sent out to hard to reach areas of the county, assisting with missing person searches, rural crime, and anti-social behaviour.

Inspector Kevin Kelly, who set up the new squad, said:

“I’m immensely proud of the team. This is arguably one of the most physically demanding roles in policing, and the officers have put a huge amount of work in to develop their skills and resilience.

“I know they will make a real difference in our communities.”
