DVLA announce digital logbook changes

DVLA has announced a new online service allowing people to change details online

Harley-Davidson

THE Driver Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) has announced a new online service allowing updates to essential V5C details.

The new website allows you to change the address of the registered keeper of the machine online, meaning that road users will now no longer have to wait six weeks for the new documents. The only information needed to update the details on the system is the registration of the vehicle, the reference number from the logbook, and the post code listed on DVLA.

Commenting, DVLA Chief Executive Julie Lennard said: “We’re launching this service at a time when online services are becoming even more vital to help people get back on the road. This new online service is quicker and easier than sending your logbook to the DVLA so, if you’ve just moved home, try the service and see how simple it is.”

The DVLA received approximately 1.4 million postal applications to change a user’s address details last year, with the number of applications pushing the time the change took up to around six weeks. A statement by the DVLA announcing the launch of the new digital service noted that it would cut processing time to a more efficient five days instead.

Use this service to change the address in your logbook to a new UK address.

You cannot use this service if:

  • you have already sent your logbook to the DVLA
  • you have sold or transferred the vehicle - tell DVLA through a different service
  • you’ve lost your logbook - you need to apply for a new logbook instead
  • your vehicle is registered as part of the DVLA fleet scheme
  • your new address is abroad, including the Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey), Isle of Man or Ireland

This service is available from 7am to 7pm.
