SINCE taking delivery of the new 2020 Honda CBR1000RR-R SP race bikes in December 2019, it’s fair to say the bikes have gone through a massive update to get ready for the 2020 racing season.
But what does a team have to actually do to get a bike ready for the roads and tracks of the 2020 racing season?
In this video series, we are getting behind the scenes access to the Honda Racing team, the bikes and the skills and techniques used to help create a machine capable of winning in the toughest championship on the planet.
In episode one, we get to see what the team did to the bikes as soon as they received the crates from Honda Japan. The focus of the first episode is setting the bikes up for the Irwin brothers who will be piloting the machines in the BSB and also Glenn for his first foray at the Isle of Man TT.

Aside from making the riders comfortable on Honda’s most technologically advanced Fireblade to date, the team also had to optimise the CBR’s fuel tank and cooling systems, employing 3d modelling to help ensure the parts would fit the bike before they had even been created.
As well as the construction of the bikes, you can also get some insight from Glenn and Andrew Irwin themselves after swinging their legs over the Fireblade for the first time at the Circuit Andalucia.
