HARLEY-DAVIDSON has launched a new motorcycle training initiative aimed at both totally new and riders and those who can ride but need to learn all the techniques and riding strategies required to gain a licence.

The new courses are on offer to riders stateside and come at a time of massive change for America’s most famous motorcycle manufacturer. For 2020 and 2021 the company is changing its approach, switching some of its focus from brand new models and acquiring customers in new segments to looking after its core customer.

According to Harley, the Experience the Ride program is tailored for those riders who are totally new to riding a powered two-wheeler and gives them the necessary skills to ride a Harley-Davidson Street 500, the smallest bike currently on the H-D range.

Participants get to try out the attractive looking cruiser while riding in the safe confines of a guarded area under expert guidance from a professional motorcycle coach. The 90-minute course is designed as a taster session and is something that Harley hope will pique the interest of the rider in two-wheels as a whole and the Harley-Davidson brand.

The other course on offer is the Harley-Davidson Academy New Rider Course, effectively the same syllabus as the current H-D rider training course, although in this instance it can be carried out during a private one to one session.

The Harley-Davidson press release reads:

“For riders that always wanted to learn but couldn’t fit a multi-day course into their schedule or prefer to learn in a private session, this program is what they have been waiting for. Sessions can be scheduled 1-on-1 or as a private party with up to 4 participants. This program is a great option for spouses, friends, and individuals to finally learn and fulfill their dreams of riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

“Benefits of the Learn to Ride program include highly flexible scheduling, learning at the rider’s pace, more focused attention from the coach, ability to repeat training modules if needed, and completion of private sessions solo or with a small group of friends resulting in lower anxiety.”
