The collaboration between Aston Martin and Brough Superior has got slightly nearer to reality as the AMB 001 begins track testing

FIRST seen in the flesh at the EICMA show in Milan last year, the collaboration between Aston Martin and Brough Superior looks to be gaining pace – literally.

The bike, called the AMB 001, is a turbocharged version of the SS100 retro-modern machine we’ve seen for some time now, although this version is going to cost around $120,000 USD and is thought to be a track-only machine.

The video seen above shows the bikes in its distinctive Aston Martin dazzle camo’, being tested out on the twisting and undulating Pau-Arnos circuit in southwestern France.

Sadly, the video doesn’t include any engine noise, so we still have no clue as to how the 997cc, 180bhp V-twin will sound like. That said, if it sounds half as good as the Brough Superior SS100, it’ll sound pretty special.

Marek Reichman, chief creative officer for Aston Martin, said in a statement:

"Everybody involved has managed to make tremendous progress with the development of AMB 001, despite the challenges we have all been facing … This special motorcycle is, like our road cars, the result of beautiful design melding with modern technology to produce a bike that any collector will be proud of. We are delighted to see how much progress has been made, both on and off track and look forward to the moment when production starts for this stunning machine."

The AMB 001 is supposed to be heading into production this autumn in a limited run. Whether or not that is still running to schedule – thanks to COVID-19 – remains unclear.
