The much talked about hybrid motorcycle from TVS is nearing completion and now has a name

TVS Ronin

TVS Motors is working up a couple of big motorcycles right now, and one of them might finally have a name.

The Indian automotive giant has just filed for a trademark for the name Ronin although it’s not totally clear which bike the new name is for!

It’s likely that the Ronin name will be attached to the incoming, and rather unusual, small capacity hybrid motorcycle that TVS has been showing off at the recent motorcycle shows - It was previously known as the Zeppelin when it was in concept form.

The other machine TVS are working up is the latest small capacity motorcycle from BMW, the faired sports bike version of the BMW G310 single-cylinder machine. Although the Ronin suits the naked, cruiser a little better than it does a head-down sports bike!

The Ronin first rolled across the exhibition block at the 2018 Auto Expo, and it’s been drawing admiring glances since then. Fair enough, the styling of the slightly boxy cruiser isn’t to everyone’s tastes, but the tech that lies within really is something else.

The bike is powered by a 220cc liquid-cooled petrol engine that’s backed up by 1200W electric motor and a 48V lithium-ion battery. While the Ronin, if indeed that is what it’s called, is an exciting machine – nobody else has really made a viable hybrid bike before – there isn’t any indication as to whether the bike will make it to these shores or not. We will let you know when that information is confirmed.
