The trail of people owed money by Norton continues to grow

A Freedom of Information Request shows Norton owe Leicestershire District Council a sizable sum of money

WITH the collapse of Norton Motorcycles, it was always clear that administrators coming on board was merely the tip of what could turn out to be a very sizable iceberg.

From the pension holders duped into handover their cash to Garner and his associates to punters who paid deposits for bikes that they now sadly, may never see.

It seems that even Leicestershire District Council are being left out of pocket to the tune of £31,180 in business rates for the year ending March 31st 2020. The same Freedom of Information request (FOI), submitted by Business Live, also shows that the Priest House Hotel, a business with close links to Garner and the motorcycle factory, owed £63,952 in business rates for the same period. It is though reported that the Priest House Hotel had paid £27,374.37 of its annual total of £91,326.87.

Derbyshire Live also reports that North West Leicestershire District Council said: "no debts have been written off previously".

With Bev Smith, chief executive of North West Leicestershire District Council, continuing: “We are deeply saddened by the plight of Norton Motorcycles and the news that the company has gone into administration.

“Our main priority is to offer support and advice through our Business Focus team to the employees impacted by this.

“We have taken the normal recovery processes for the substantial debt owed to the district council and are in contact with the administrators.”

The news regarding unpaid business rates comes just a couple of weeks after Norton’s administrators, BDO, claimed there was significant interest in buying the iconic British nameplate. Have a read of who we think could buy it here: visordown.com/whos-going-to-buy-norton
