Ducati introduces new Monster 797

DUCATI revealed its new Monster 797 at its pre-Eicma press conference in Milan.

It’s being pitched as an accessible entry-point in to Ducati for both first time Ducati owners and new riders – hence the wide bars and low 805mm seat height.

The Monster 797 is powered by the air-cooled 803cc L-twin engine found in the Scrambler family. It still makes 75hp at 8,250 rpm but peak torque of 69nm is delivered at 5,750rpm. As you can see, the engine is housed in a tubular steel trellis frame and being an entry level Scrambler, this bike features a double-sided swingarm. It does have a slipper clutch though.

Suspension at front is from Kayaba, with a 43mm diameter upside down fork at the front. At the bottoms of each fork leg is a Brembo M4.32 radial caliper and 320mm disc. A Sachs shock with adjustable preload and rebound damping takes care of the rear.

This bike has an LCD instrument panel, LED indicators and tail light, plus a USB port under the seat.

Ducati says it’s a Monster that, with its beefy 16.5 litre tank, traditional trellis frame and air-cooled engine, harks back to the original 1992 bike.
