Pulse jets - Hitler was onto something...

Fancy a jet engined bike? We do...

Hitler's V-flying bombs that made such a mess of our major cities in the early to mid forties were powered by pulse-jet engines. They had just enough fuel and just enough engine-range to make a right old mess of some of our nicest historical buildings.

Pulse-jets are the simplest form of engine ever with only one moving part - a crude reed valve. I've been fascinated by these motors for a number of years now and have some blue-prints stuck to the side of my SnapOn toolbox to make my own.

They use the principle of gas expansion and wave harmonics to expel and recharge the 'cylinder' and the fuels used can be as simple and readily available as Calor gas. They are also painfully noisy and impossible to silence which makes them even more appealing.

One of the World's leading advocates of Pulse-jet technology is a crack pot Kiwi inventor who can be found at www.aardvark.co.nz/pjet. This guy in the video seems to have not only successfully packaged the pulse-jet into a two-wheeled solution but his finishing touches are immaculate.

We approve.

Thats brilliant, i also approve.
I wonder if a propper motorbike frame would give too much rolling resistance? I really dont like the idea of doing high speed on a pushbike.

The cure for a heavier frame is simple: A bigger motor :-)
